Before Treatment

What types of tools and products does Lily's Choice use?

We use sterilised stainless steel tools and all of the pigments are from well-known, long-time established manufacturers from Germany, Canada, Korea, and Russia. Our premium quality pigments are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. We use good quality numbing cream as well. Each sterile tool is only used for one client, then disposed of to ensure the highest hygiene standards are applied in the studio.

What if I have an allergy to Nickel, is there any Nickel in the blade?

Our blades are all made of stainless steel, so there is an amount of nickel in the stainless steel. It’s recommended that sensitive skin types do a patch test (48 hours before the treatment) to rule out allergies. Schedule an appointment with South Island Allergy Service located in Upper Riccarton to take a test.

What's the expected level of pain?

When you’re undergoing the process, the pain you feel will depend on your personal pain tolerance. You may feel minor pressure or discomfort and of course, Numbing cream will ease the process.

Cosmetic tattoos are much less painful compared to body tattoos, as they’re shallow in the skin. If you’ve tried plucking, threading, or waxing eyebrows, tattooing is only slightly more painful. For more information, please refer to our blog and testimonials.

What are the contraindications, if any?

All clients need to sign a contract and fill in the health form before treatment. Semi-permanent makeup tattoos are not right for you, if:

  • You are not yet 18
  • You have diabetes, or skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, skin cancer, epilepsy
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You are undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy
  • You have glaucoma or take blood-thinning medicines
  • You have got HIV or hepatitis, haemophilia
  • You have a healing disorder or uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • You’ve had Botox or filler in the past month

You need a doctor’s certificate or advice before a treatment if you have any disease on the list.

Do eyebrows grow back after tattooing?

The eyebrow tattooing process will not harm any existing eyebrow hairs as the main factors that affect hair growth are hormones, health, and to a lesser extent, nutrition.

After Treatment

What should I do post treatment?

Semi-permanent makeup tattoos are formed through incisions in the skin, so you should keep it clean and prevent external factors that affect the area when it’s healing. You should follow these steps to get the best results as you heal:

  • First 24 hours, gently clean eyebrows/lips with clean, boiled warm water by using cotton pads to remove the oozing, then you can use a cotton bud to apply a thin layer of post-treatment cream. Repeat this process 3-5 times in the first 24 hours to avoid dry scabs.
  • After 24 hours, you can gently wash your face each morning and night with water and gentle unscented cleanser (like Cetaphil, or baby shampoo) with a very light touch. After that, dry them with a dry clean cotton pad and apply a thin layer of post-treatment cream to keep the area moisturised for the rest of the recovery period (3-7 days). Do not put the post-treatment cream on a wet or damp tattoo. Do not use any products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, AHA) or exfoliants in the recovery period.

Important reminders:

  • Do not PICK or RUB the scabs as they may lead to scarring or loss of colour.
  • No facials, sun beds, tanning, botox, chemical treatment, microdermabrasion, swimming, sauna, sun exposure, sweating in the gym, no makeup or anti-aging cream on the healing area for at least 1 week. It’s best to allow the tattoo area to heal first before using any of the above.

What's the healing process like?

Please have a look at the pictures below to recognise which stage you’re at.

How long will the results last?

The factors that affect pigment retention are external, internal, and human factors. However, most clients require a touch-up after 12 months or 18 months following the first session to maintain the fullest look of the tattoo. Cosmetic ink is not placed deep underneath the skin, so as your skin naturally cycles, the ink will eventually rise to the surface and appear lighter.

Can semi-permanent makeup tattoos make you look younger?

The increased facial contrast caused by cosmetic tattoos is known to make people appear younger and more vital according to some studies. One of the visual signals of age is the thinning out of the eyebrows or pale-coloured skin. With a natural result, semi-permanent tattoos can rejuvenate your look all day long, every day.
